The brand new PlayUK Virtual Exhibition is now open.
Whilst the 20/21 edition of PlayUK is almost complete, today we have one big final announcement which is that the PlayUK virtual exhibition space is now open. The PlayUK Hub is a virtual exhibition and hangout space that celebrates all the inspiring talks, ideas and work that made up PlayUK 20/21 over the last six months.
This brand new digital exhibition space was designed by illustrator and designer Anđela Janković and was built by Andrej Jagar in Mozilla Hubs with support from Dušica Košarac and Edin Ramić. Anđela’s vision for the exhibition was bold, colourful and speculative and inspired by the architectural styles that surround her in Belgrade. You can see some of her concert art and early ideas for the space here.
From today you can visit the hub to explore on your own or with friends. In the main hubs room come relax in the conversation pit and catch up with the big PlayUK Showcase event that took place on March 24th, featuring talks by Ed Fear (Mediatonic), Dajana Dimovska (NapNok Games), Ivan Notaroš and a host of other leading game creatives from across the Western Balkans and the UK.
Via the hub’s portals you can teleport out to the satellite stations where you can catch up with each of the ten PlayUK Salon talks that took place over the last six months, or get to know the PlayUK mentee’s and find out more about their work and ideas.
PlayUK is the British Council’s platform supporting creativity in digital art, offering access to new skills and knowledge, and strengthening the interaction between art and technology. The platform forges new connections between practitioners across digital disciplines and the arts from the UK and Western Balkans countries.
Whilst past versions of PlayUK have taken place in person, due to Covid 19, PlayUK 20/21 became an ‘all digital’ online edition. From October 2020 through to March 2021 the program hosted a fortnightly expert speaker salon series, launched a brand new mentorship scheme that brought together a cohort of 20 videogame practitioners and broadcast a live closing Showcase Event .
Thank you to all the people, from speakers to event hosts, mentors and mentees, designers and developers, who supported PlayUK over the past six months and made everything possible.
