Our work in visual arts | British Council

Our visual arts programme aims to empower museums and galleries across the Western Balkans to attract young audiences.

Primary activities include training and development, professional study exchange visits and the sharing of UK’s unrivalled knowledge in the visual arts and museums sector usually complimented with an exhibition from the British Council Collection or from our partners as a supporting platform to implement newly obtained skills.

Over the previous period representatives of museums from across the Western Balkans were trained by experts from the Tyne and Wear Museum, the National Museum of Scotland and the London Design Museum. We have also hosted several world-renowned exhibitions in the region, including Henry Moore's The Printmaker in 2013, Damien Hirst's New Religion in 2016, Grayson Perry’s The Vanity of Small Differences in 2017, the Perceptions exhibition tour between 2018 and 2019 and Brian Eno's 77 Million Paintings in 2018, many of which showcased the works of contemporary UK artists alongside artworks from the Western Balkans.

Henry Moore Comes Home

Henry Moore Comes Home, a new exhibition of prints by Henry Moore, one of the best UK artists of the 20th century, opened at the British Council’s headquarters in London on 1 December 2015.
