What does a silent film sound like when a musician writes a new score for it? In Tirana, ‘Reframing the Frame’ brought musicians and film professionals together to explore that question through workshops and screenings with live music.

In the film, Iris Elezi and Donika Çina discuss how the project helps emerging practitioners develop their skills and make connections in the film industry. Composer Erind Bajo describes learning from UK silent film accompanist Stephen Horne and how he used rhythm and emotion to respond to what he saw on screen.

At the Film Industry Forum on 11 and 12 October 2026, the conversation turned to how cinemas can build lasting relationships with their audiences. Film historian Ian Christie reflects on what it takes for films to become part of people’s cultural lives. The forum closed with Bajo performing his original score for ‘Ménilmontant’.

United Nations Association Albania delivered the project with the Albanian Cinematheque and the British Film Institute as the UK partner. The Western Balkans Fund co-funded the forum. The British Council supported the project through Creative Growth Western Balkans, a programme developed in partnership with BEYOND Studio.
