“Out of Frame: Promoting New Perspectives through Photography” was a regional initiative aiming to elevate emerging talent and strengthen photography ecosystems across Serbia, Montenegro, and North Macedonia. Through a combination of exhibitions, workshops, a regional conference, and peer learning, the project supported cross-border collaboration, artistic development, and digital visibility for young photographers in the Western Balkans.
The programme officially launched in December 2024 during the opening of the 12th Vizualizator Festival in Belgrade, featuring Montenegrin photographer Radoje Jovanović and his exhibition Halal Riviera. The event attracted over 70 in-person attendees and 200 livestream viewers, generating momentum for the months-long programme of activities that followed. The second major showcase, Weird Fish is You by Serbian artist Milica Macanović, was opened in April 2025, during Tivat Photo Days at the public gallery Muzej i galerija Tivat. Featuring 15 works, it welcomed around 100 visitors over its run, further strengthening the programme’s visibility and engagement.
Over the course of the project, 30 thematic workshops were held across the three countries, gathering over 70 young talents to explore contemporary photography topics—from ethics and identity to artificial intelligence and visual storytelling. Participants were selected through open calls and institutional networks, with strong engagement from universities and photography associations. The project placed strong emphasis on visibility and long-term impact. A multimedia digital exhibition titled Out of Frame – New Perspectives was launched on two regional platforms—vizualizator.rs and grain.mk—featuring 96 works from 32 emerging photographers. The culmination of the project took place in June 2025 at the City Museum of Skopje, with the final exhibition Re-creation of Sight attended by international partners and the public.
In addition to public events, the project also supported professional exchange among implementing partners through workshops and peer-to-peer sessions. A dedicated workshop was held in Belgrade for staff from partner organisations, and a peer learning session in Tivat connected regional actors with European-level expertise through the PARALLEL photography platform.
The project succeeded in building a cross-border network of emerging photographers, fostering professional growth, and showcasing the potential of visual storytelling as a tool for regional dialogue.
